Looking for recommendations on where to stay. Looking for a place to stay that can accommodate 4 adults and 2 children. Should we stay in Carlsbad or closer to the zoo?
Good question, Hotels/Motels are more expensive in General in the Downtown San Diego area, where the San Diego Zoo is located in Balboa Park.
Carlsbad has some high priced Hotels, but also a bunch of lower priced Hotel/Motels.
I think it really depends on what deal you can find on your specific dates of travel.
Thanks for the reply. I think we're leaning towards staying in Carlsbad because it's a half hour closer to home. I'll have to start looking for some deals and reviews.
Thanks!
JJ
OK, you have a couple of "issues", the first is the amount of folks you want to stay in one "room". Most locations in California have the Fire Marshall saying a limit of 4 or 5 people in a room. So you might need two rooms, or get a larger "suite" room.
Sounds like you have a rental car, I like using Hotwire.com for those cases, where you can look at the "area" and the amenities, but not the actual Hotel/Motel name until you pay.
Looking at the Carlsbad TA listings, there is a Homewood Suites that should allow 6 folks at a decent price.
Another chain I like is the Residence Inn, here is the one in Carlsbad.
Both of the above Hotels come with a full kitchen including Pots and Pans (You have to provide your own food and drink).
There are many more choices, but at least a starting point.
