What else to do in Anaheim besides Disney?

My 14 year son and I will be arriving in Anaheim the evening before we will be going to Disneyland and Knotts Berry Farm. Is there anything else for us to do in Anaheim the evening before. Shows, mini golf, go carts, museums.... anything?

OK, "evening", so no heading to the beach. The best museums are also closed in the evening (Discovery Science Center and Bowers Museum in Santa Ana).

Close, there is the Anaheim GardenWalk, with a multi screen Cinema with an IMAX screen, and a fancy bowling alley.

Dinner shows are close by in Buena Park, both the Medeival Times and Pirates Dinner Theater.

The Block of Orange has a Vans Skate Park (skateboarding and Roller Blades).

There is a Mini Golf location a few miles away off the 91 north-east of Disneyland...

Darkbeer pretty much covers it. It'll be too dark in the beach, so no ocean going is good that late. As for other stuff:

- Sports: Anaheim Angels baseball at Angel Stadium. Golfland as mentioned is fun. It has go karts and mini golf. The Vans skatepark at The Block, as mentioned, is good also.

- Video games: The near Anaheim Block of Orange has a Dave and Busters, and also another fancy bowling place, Lucky Strike. The mall also has a movie theater.

- If a child friendly entertainer is playing at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney, there's another entertainment option for you guys.

- Lastly, there is always the nightly Disneyland fireworks show :). It's viewable almost anywhere around Anaheim.

You could take a walk through Downtown Disney. There is lots to look at. I think there is an ice rink in Anaheim somewhere as well.

Youngfamily, there you go....ice skating. It's the Anaheim Rinks on Anaheim ICE, located on Harbor Blvd.and Lincoln Avenue. That is the facility where the Anaheim Ducks hockey team trains in, as well as some figure skaters, etc. A good fun time could be had with your son there, and the drive from Disneyland area to there is only about 15 minutes or so. I don't know of any closer ice skating rinks to DL, though...

If he likes sports, there is an ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney.

Can you go to Downtown Disney without having a Disney ticket for that day?

Yes, you can go to Downtown Disney without a Disneyland ticket. It's an open marketplace type of place with shops, movie theater, restaurants, and concert venue. Anyone can stroll there without having a DL theme park ticket or be staying at a Disney hotel.

Downtown Disney is a Shoppertainment Mall, that has restaurants, shops and some entertainment options. The area is free to enter, but of course, anythng you want to do besides browse costs (such as attending a concert, playing the games at the ESPN Zone, seeing a movie, etc.).

I personally prefer the Anaheim GardenWalk Shoppertainment Mall instead, much more options, tends to be cheaper, especailly if you know where to eat. Located one block east of Disneyland on Disney Way.

And as for Anaheim ICE, you need to be careful with its schedule, as much of the time it is not open to the public.

There actually is a go cart place, I just can't remember the name right now. If you do a google search you should come up with it.

As mentioned Downtown Disney is free. Knott's also has a free area called the Knott's Marketplace, which includes the famous Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant. Downtown Disney would be more fun for an evening, but it's always good to visit Knott's Marketplace during a day at Knott's, either in the morning (nice bakery with boysenberry pastries), or get a hand stamp and exit for lunch, then return.
