In need of help for a 2 week itinerary for Belize in 2 weeks

Myself, fiance, father and our 11 year old son are planning a last minute vacation to Belize for 2 weeks. We are hoping to arrive Nov 21st and have approximately 12 days to schedule. This will likely be our only trip to Belize and we have been dreaming of visiting the area for years but given the last minute scheduling we haven't much time to plan. We would like to spend some time inland (jungle) with some ruin exploring and taking in the wildlife and exploring the jungle but also have some time on the water-thinking Ambergris Caye area? We are somewhat on a budget but wouldn't mind splurging at 1 location if it is a must see/stay location. Any suggestions on must do's or places to stay or visit during this time of the year? We enjoy hiking but mainly snorkeling and would love to just take in the best Belize has to offer. Thank you in advance for your recommendations.

I'd split between inland and beach with an overnight trip to Tikal in Guatemala; if you want to see more of Belize and don't mind moving around, starting in Hopkins or Placencia, then the San Ignacio area and Tikal, then ending up on Caulker or Ambergris. You might have to keep an open mind since that's a busy time and some places will be booked solid.

I've pasted my favorite Belize links below. Happy planning!

Great suggestions! We plan to come to Belize for two weeks mid-April. Will most places be booked? We like to travel without reservations.

Easter is April 20th this year so mid April will be a busy time. You'll always find something but know that the very coolest and best value places in many areas will be booked full. Traveling without reservations means you keep flexibility and may save some $ with walk up pricing, but you may have to settle for less than awesome or not great value options and you may spend time slogging from place to place looking for space (in the HEAT) or moving more often if what you find doesn't please. Frankly, I'd research ahead and book but it's your vacation. Have a great trip, whatever you decide! :-)
