Ferry transport between Belize City/Puerto Cortes, Honduras

We're a Canadian couple living in Copan Ruinas, heading over to Belize later this month for a little tourist time. We are thinking of working our way up from Punta Gorda to Belize City by bus, but then making our way back to Honduras on the Pride of Belize ferry that runs between Belize City and Puerto Cortes, Honduras. However, the Web site is no longer functioning and I'm hoping someone has current information about this ferry/water taxi - is it still running, does it do runs every day or only once in a while, anything we need to know before taking it (like taking Dramamine because it's a rock-and-roll ride, etc).

Great! OK, we can plan our trip to return to Honduras that way. Does it run every day?

Pride of Belize no longer operates. There has been some issues with the company not informing travel agents of their termination and passengers have been left stranded because of that. I 'was' an agent for them and today, December 14th is when i had the passenger returning to get his money back.

Good to know - guess that's why I love Trip Advisor! OK, we will plan on making our way back to Placencia and to Honduras from there. Thanks!

@ Jody P

From Placencia is probably better for you guys than Belize City, anyways. Less travel time. I don't remember you saying that you wanted to go to Caye Caulker or San Pedro, so Placencia makes sense for you.

The beaches in Placencia are as nice (if not nicer) than anywhere on mainland Honduras. Check out Mayflower Bocawina National Park (lot's of waterfalls), Laughing Bird Caye, Ranguana Caye, Glover's Reef etc...

If you have time, check out:

Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary (Jaguar Preserve with lot's of waterfalls), St. Herman's Cave, the Belize Zoo.

Since you all live near Copán, the ruins of southern Belize like Lubaantun, Uxbenka and Nim Li Punit won't blow you away.

If you are going to the Cayo District, be sure to check out Caracol, Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave (ATM Cave), as well as the numerous caves and waterfalls in the area.

Thanks again! In fact we ARE going up to Caye Caulker, and also to Caracol, although we've left our hotel booking way too tight for the Christmas season and have yet to find a place for a couple of nights in San Ignacio. If anyone knows of perhaps slightly less popular hotels in that area, please pass them along - have tried the TripAdvisor-reviewed ones for San Ignacio and have either not received a reply yet or they're full. Sounds like Placencia will be a great place to come back to after Caye Caulker, as we still have 2-3 days free at the end of our trip and are looking at Placencia and Punta Gorda.

I personally think you would prefer Placencia or San Pedro (on Ambergris Caye) over Caye Caulker, but everyone is different I guess.

Try Martz Farm for lodging in Cayo. Good location for a Caracol trip.
