Don't be afraid to use a meter taxi. There must be over 500 posts you can look over for hints. Also the FAQs on the side can be helpful. (Forum search choice is just above your opening post.) Use a real computer for your research- maybe a laptop or other big screen computer. More options with a computer and you can pull up several windows for comparisons.
Hotel location can make it easy for you to walk to restaurants, shopping, nightlife and city rail service or whatever.
* Many millions of tourists have use meter taxis over the years. They are not that expensive providing you take the time to read up on how best to do it! Taxis from the airport are regulated. Many posts answer questions for "how much" to pay.

Unless in an area taxis aren't fond of, or wanting to go to one, I don't see the point of Uber / Grab. TBO have never used.
Bicycle in Bangkok, suicidal, especially for a tourist. MB taxi ...... a step above.
I have found motorbike taxis cheaper than metered taxis onlyfor short rides for which the standard fare is less than the metered taxi 35 baht flag fall. On longer distances they soon cost more. For example, a ride to the nearest BTS station costs in our neighborhood about 50 baht with metered taxi and 60 baht with motorbike taxii. With several people metered taxis are cheaper even sooner.
If taxis and uber are too expensive, buses are the way to go. Google Maps helps to sort them out.
And forget tuk tuks, they are more expensive than metered taxis.
Non A/C Govt Red bus is the cheapest and sometimes Free of Charge.
There you go Sushan. Apart from walking, the cheapest would be the red bus.
