Bus 389. (My regular bus link not opening today, Band Width Limit??)
Below link has similar info.
Arriving Bangkok around 8 pm is early. You can use the cheap Airport Rail Link to get into the city for peanuts. Hotel in the city, go out hit some pubs or beer bars or whatever. Next morning Skytrain to Ekamai bus terminal. Bus to Pattaya from there.
Taxi to Ekamai bus terminal from airport. Last bus from that bus terminal to Pattaya is 2300.
Up to you.
The last bus to Pattaya from the airport is the 389 bus and leaves at 10pm. Should be ok now before peak season starts. But I have known 2 or 3 hour waits for the bus in peak season December/January late afternoon. The last bus from Ekamai in case the 389 airport bus is sold out is at 11pm. Caught this bus from Ekamai one time about 2 years ago when I was told the 389 buses including last one was sold out. I was at the airport bus 389 stand about 8.30 pm to be told their 9 and 10pm buses were sold out.Edited: 24 October 2017, 21:14
I guess because 1000 baht is about 8-10 times more than the bus would be?
Not a less expensive option because a hotel would still have to be paid for in Pattaya.
BKK hotel (let's say 500 baht) + transfer into BKK + bus to Pattaya the next day = 700 baht.
Taxi to Pattaya + Pattaya hotel (let's say 500 baht) = 1500 baht.
Anyway OP can easily get to Pattaya by bus same day. I'd guess there'd also be minivans at the airport as well as the buses.
Thanks for all the info. I don't like taking the taxis from the airports in Thailand or anywhere else because I'm a cheap charlie who hates being ripping off by taxis at airports. Suvarnabhumi is the biggest airport in Thailand and a major hub. Pattaya is their biggest largest resort attracting millions of people a year. Yet a pretty piss poor public transport service is on offer to connect the two! One bus an hour in the evenings if you are lucky? A bus or two during the day which may or may not be sold out? I wonder why taxis are so dominent?
Anyway, have decided to spend the weekend in Bangkok now as it is v easy to get to using the Skytrain and means that I can also be in the hotel, showered and out for Friday night when I land. Will head to Pattaya on the way home in a month's time.
If I catch the 389 bus in airport going to pattaya, how long will the bus ride be ? About 2 hours ?
