Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia Visit

We will be visiting Thailand/Cambodia and Vietnam between January 2 and April 2, 2014. Have been reading lots on tripadvisor where I've always found great info for our other trips. We want to do some touring (have already seen list of tour operators recommended on Trip Advisor and will arrange with those depending on area we are in). Also want to do about half the time (or more) on the beach - would like to rent a bungalow - preferable with a kitchen on a nice beach. We are in our mid 60s and active - no concern about walking and would like to be within walking distance of markets as well as good places to eat (love Thai food so definitely don't want to cook every day LOL but would be nice to be able to have bkfst and lunch and also cook the odd dinner). Because of length of time we will be there would like to experience different beaches - ones with sunrise views but definitely ones with sunset views. Not sure if we should stay on mainland or go to one of the islands. Any recommendations would greatly be appreciated. Will also post onThailand and Camboia sites.

To get a better response, try narrowing down your questions to more specifics....a very broad question and not really sure what you want to know.

No bungalows on the beach with kitchen that I know of in Vietnam. No bungalows, actually, unless you want a five star resort. And certainly not near any markets. Perhaps in Mui Ne?

Sunset views over the ocean are rare as most of the country is ocean bound to the east. But where there is a sunrise there will be a sunset somewhere, often over the mountains :-)

Phu Quoc Island probably fits the bill best for your needs in Vietnam, and it should be great at that time of year. Not sure about the availability of self-contained bungalows, but there are a lot of low-key places with bungalow type accommodation close to, or right on the beach. And you can have your sunsets over the sea.

While the beaches are by and large pretty good, you'll generally find a lot more better quality beaches in Thailand than Vietnam. What you will find in Vietnam is wonderful people, great culture, and much cheaper prices.

Tks will check it out. Wherever we stay we want to stay in some places with nice sunrises and and some places with nice sunsets - don't expect to stay in one spot where we will have both. We initially were planning to do this in 2015 but our 2014 Mexico vacation plans changed so decided to do Vietnam Thailand and Cambodia in 2014 year. Not as much time research as I would like.

A bungalow with kitchen is very difficult to find in Vietnam! Perhaps you can find some cheap bungalows in Phu Quoc (which I think the only place you can), but without a kitchen. It is not a very popular type of business to provide accommodation and a kitchen for self cooking. Unless you look for a rental house, you will not find it.

Save your beach time for Thailand, where they know how to do beach holidays. Vietnam is a great place to visit but not the best place for a beach stay.

Thank you - it looks perfect - no kitchen but great reviews of their restaurant and I believe within walking distance to night market. I've sent them an email.
