We didn't understand either, first time we have ever had to pay to leave a country, my wife had quite a discussion in Arabic(Arabic is her first language) but they wouldn't let us leave without paying, I was saying fine deport us then, we paid enough for our visa on entry (95AUDper person).
It maybe a scam, we protested, they said we have to pay if we wish to leave. My wife said it reminded her of the the old days of the Nasser gov't in Egypt, just pay up and more on.
To NZCowboy, do you have the contact information for that driver? We are trying to arrange something similar and would appreciate any positive references. Thank you.
do the shared taxis leave from the Somaria garage aswell as the bus. Surely a taxi service would leave from central Damascus and not 25km out? Is it recommended to get a shared taxi over a bus, eg. fewer passengers at border crossing etc. Where does the shared taxi arrive in amman. Is it possible to get a shared taxi to Madaba from the same area you get dropped off in amman?
Sorry for the many questions
The sahred taxi and bus to amman leaves from The Somaria garage.
Shared taxi arrives amman at Abdali garage down town.
You need to take another shared taxi to Madaba from the new bus/taxi terminal in Amman the Tareq/Tabarbor
ok thank is that the wadehat south place (sorry for the spelling)
The Wehdat Mujamaa Janoobi is different from Tareq/Tabarbor which is the Main New Bus terminal for amman
