Family Holiday

Hi there

Firstly, we are choosing between Samoa and Fiji for a family holiday at Christmas....do you agree that Samoa is a good option?

Also, any suggestions for god resorts in Samoa. Family of 5 (young kids under 7)...would like a fairly nice standard/mod cons.

We are beach goers and love a good beach with nice clear water as well.

Thanks for your help.

The decision between Fiji and Samoa is a pretty simple one - if you want to go to a place that tourists flock to en masse then choose Fiji, if you want somewhere that can offer you space on a beach, peace and quiet when you need it, the ability to get off the beaten track and away from it all, and an amazing country steeped in Polynesian tradition, beautiful welcoming people, pristine environment and relatively cheap cost of living - then choose Samoa.

With children the age of yours I would choose between Aggie Greys Lagoon Beach Resort and Spa which has a great kids club, beautiful tropical setting, great service and food (a meal plan is available) and fantastic staff, a spa and massage centre, water sports and it is close to Mulifanua Wharf where you can catch the ferry to Savaii for a day trip, or Samoana Surf Resort which has a much better beach than Aggies, takes kids under 12, great staff and food, idyllic setting, pool, etc.

Unfortunately many resorts in Samoa do not allow kids under 12 so your choices are limited. You could also try a beach fale experience at beautiful Lalomanu Beach at Taufua Beach Fales. This is probably the best swimming beach in Samoa however the fales do not have all the mod cons, it may be just an experience you would like to have for a night or 2.

I hope this helps a little. Also check out jasons.com/samoa for everything Samoan including accommodation, sightseeing, car hire etc.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask.

Manuia le aso (have a great day)

Samoa is great, really relaxed and uncommercialised. We have travelled all around both islands of Samoa and really liked Savaii Lagoon Resort on Savaii. It would be a perfect place to stay if you are considering going to Savaii. It is ideal for a family because it has a lovely sandy beach in a safe lagoon. This resort is family friendly and the accommodation is right down on the beach and when we stayed there our 7 year old son learned to snorkel. The fish life is amazing! The breakfasts included in the roomrate are very good and there are a couple of restaurants nearby to choose from (including one onsite) and a pizza place or you can cook for yourselves in your room. Bathroom facilities within your room are also a bonus - especially with kids! We liked this resort because there are complimentary kayaks and the drinking water is treated on site so that there are no hidden extras like hiring kayaks or buying bottled water. We hope to go back there next year. We have tried the beach fale experience and while it was fun, we like accommodation that offers mod cons!

Have a great holiday!

hi i would recommed samoa - if what you want is for less tourists, fantastic beaches. my sister has lived and holidayed in samoa and has just got back from a holiday in fiji ( not there choice actually a gift from a family member to celebrate a birthday) and while they had a lovely holiday they said " its not samoa!".

some places i would highly recommed are

manumea resort or aggies hotel ( the old aggies ) if you want to spend a night or so in town.

as deb said the new aggies resort( while i havent' stayed here) would be nice.

in savaii - legogoto resort and maybe savaii lagoon, suifaga resort also looks nice.

sa'moana resort is also lovely ( although some rooms have a composting toilet). fantastic setting , lovely pool , nice beaches etc.

hope this helps

enjoy your plans
