Montana MP hike coming from Ollantaytambo

Hi,

We are planning an August 31st MP visit including the 9-10am Montana hike slot.

Is this feasible if we take the 5.05am train from Ollantaytambo, allow for an up to 2 hour line up for the bus to MP (according to some reports), then toilets and entrance line ups and walking over to the hike start?

If doable, would we be able to exit for a toilet visit after the 3+ hour hike and re-enter to visit the site?

Finally, when should we line up for the return bus in order to catch the 18.20 train to Ollantaytambo?

Thanks in advance for any advice on this plan.

That should be doable, as we did something similar (except the train in the morning, we stayed in Aguas Calientes during the night - that might be more recommendable). As there are two time slots, go in the morning and take the train in the afternoon, relaxed and worryless.

Thank you, BarbaWellsh, for your reply. We will follow your recommendation to stay the previous night in Aguas Calientes so as not to worry about missing our time slot the next day.

Thanks again!

Also, you absolutely can exit the site once and re-enter after using the restrooms. Once you are finished in the citadel, I'd just take the bus (or walk) down. It's much easier to kill time in AC rather than gamble of bus departures. If you have a lot of time, check out the hot springs (20 soles per person). It's excellent for relaxing after strenuous hiking, you could also enjoy a nice beverage as you soak.
