Macchu Picchu ,closing in 2012?

Macchu Picchu ,closing in 2012?

Macchu Picchu is such a wonderful, intriguing and mysterious site!

Closing it, or talk of closing it, needs to come from official sources.

So many hostels, restaurants, tourist industries, travel agencies,

airlines,... and tourists seem to depend on it. It is hard to imagine

any serious closing!

Apart from the sheer beauty, architecture, archaelogical, historical and geographic attractions, any visitor is asking countless questions. How did the Incas cut, carve, move, and put those straight and huge rocks there? Hardly any of the guides explain that , or point out remaining evidence of tools that were used. Why was it built? How was water provided?

With better tools today, can't Peruvians try to chop out more sites beside,or inside , or top of, the many other mountains?

Where on earth did you get the idea that MP was closing??

The guides can't explain something they don't know--no one knows how the stones were cut and transported and put into place.

From the UNESCO official site:

Machu Picchu stands 2,430 m above sea-level, in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, in an extraordinarily beautiful setting. It was probably the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height; its giant walls, terraces and ramps seem as if they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments. The natural setting, on the eastern slopes of the Andes, encompasses the upper Amazon basin with its rich diversity of flora and fauna.

Would you think that somebody would close the historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu to the world?

I do not think so!

I hear this rumor all the time. Before we went, after we got back, people said "aren't you glad you went/are going before it closes". I always said...funny, no one in Peru thinks its closing! How did this rumor get started?

Maybe the same day as the Pyramids in Egypt.

Or could it be in 2012 when the whole world will collapse ?

Common, MP is opened every day of the year unless the rain shuts down the railroad.

Check out "Nova Ghost of Macchu Picchu". It explains a lot on (probably)how it was build, why, and why they left. Obviously todays scientists were not there, so nothing is 100%.
