We are also in Hiva Oa for 1 port day on our upcoming Marina cruise in April. Have not had much luck yet in getting Tour Guide info for this port. Would appreciate anyone who has been there previously to make a recommendation.
It is quite a walk from the dock were the shuttles will take you to the main village... and you may be disappointed as the museum and cemetery where Gauguin and Brel are buried is not that spectacular. You should look into a possibility to visit Puamau (other side of the island) which has the biggest Tiki's of FP and/or visit the Taaoa valley which has an enormous amount of "pae pae" and is one of the biggest archeological sites of FP.
Any recommendation of tour guides for me to contact there? What do 1200+ pass angers from a cruise ship do at this port when they arrive. Are there public buses to take to the sites from the tender docks?
We have decided to sit this one out, incase we deviate. But:
Gabriel Heitaa Tours: heitaagabyfeli@mal.pf
Frida Peterano: Tel.92.79.66/70.72.02 English speaking guide for sightseeing.
Thanks, I am considering doing as you mentioned. If we due manage to get into port, we can always tender in and see what is offered at the Dock as far as available tours.
