French Citizen getting married with Romanian

Hi guys,

I'm here to clear some doubts. As a French citizen I already got married to a Romanian citizen.

Normally it has to be 5 years before you got the Citizenship but since am a European citizen, is it possible to get the Romanian citizenship less than 5 years?

Waiting so patiently to hear back from you. Thanking you

According to the official citizenship related Justice Ministry page ( …just.ro/index.php/ro/vrei-sa-devii-cetatean… ), for EU citizens the term may be reduced by up to half. So, 2.5 years at best.

Note that you have to reside in Romania for at least 6 months per year to have one year counted.

Yes, we'll use Google Translate instead:

"Romanian citizenship can be granted, upon request, to a person without citizenship or to a foreign citizen, pursuant to the provisions of art. 8 of the Romanian Citizenship Act no. 21/1991, republished, if it fulfills cumulatively the following conditions:

a) was born and lives at the date of the application on the territory of Romania or, although not born in that territory, is domiciled under the law on the territory of the Romanian State for at least 8 years or, if married and lives with a citizen Romanian, at least 5 years from the date of marriage;

(b) proves, through behavior, actions and attitude, loyalty to the Romanian State, does not undertake or support actions against the rule of law or national security and declares that he has not taken such actions in the past;

c) has reached the age of 18;

d) has in Romania legal means for a decent existence, under the conditions established by the legislation on the regime of aliens;

e) is known for good behavior and has not been convicted in the country or abroad for an offense that makes him unworthy of being a Romanian citizen;

f) knows the Romanian language and possesses basic notions of Romanian culture and civilization, sufficient to integrate into the social life;

g) knows the provisions of the Romanian Constitution and the national anthem.

The time limits provided for in subparagraph a) can be reduced to half in the following situations:

a) the applicant is an internationally recognized personality;

b) the applicant is a citizen of a Member State of the European Union;

c) the applicant has acquired refugee status according to the legal provisions in force;

d) the applicant has invested in Romania amounts in excess of EUR 1,000,000."

You mention that you want to read it in English, but under f) it says 'knows the Romanian language'. I don't know what level they require, but if you can't read these texts in Romanian, you will probably fail their tests as well? But again, i don't know what level of knowledge they require.
