Thanks for the feedback!
Hey! I have just completed 2 weeks at Savusavu, 28July -11 Aug 2011, staying at The Bamboo House or also known as Fiji Beach Shacks, (which is to die for) and we had a fair bit of rain. Not once did any of us (5) feel as tho this was the place not to be. We travelled passed Namale quite a few times. Oh my goodness it is beautiful! It is on a lovely stretch of the Island, with beautiful beaches. Thing is,if it's raining..... it's warm, how cool is that? :) We just changed what we were doing for the day, Read books, played games, watched DVD's and relaxed and looked at the every changing view.
On the days that were fine weather wise we went out exploring, there are so many things to see and enjoy, you will not be bored in 10 days, we weren't. We rented a 4x4 for the mid week of our holiday and explored heaps.
We were on the Savusavu Bay side which is calm and a marine reserve (even saw a whale) just down the road from Cousteau Resort. Namale is facing the Ocean, so the wind is more noticable. The owners of The House of Bamboo are on the Namale side of the Island and we visited their home which is perched on the side of a hill with an incredible view, the ocean was more rough their side that in the Bay. Both beautiful, both very different
Just don't expect a high end town and cafes, we are looking at the 1970's here. It was quaint. You can also enjoy meals out at Jean Micheal Cousteau Resort fantastic, picnics on beaches, a day trip to Labasa, shopping ( for 2hrs max!) sitting at The Captains Table, (we did lunches here) Surf in Turf (we did an evening meal here, devine)which over looks the harbour and all the sailing boats and those huge luxury play boats! Koro Sun was a lovely place to have lunch, just down the road from Namale. Decked out Cafe was good for a cold one. Yatch Club was great for a pizza
Savusavu is what you make it. If your into diving, fishing, snorkling you will be wowed. If like me you are more into shopping, cafes, picnics, exploring ,you will not be disappointed. 10 days will not be enough even if it rains.
The flight from Nadi to Savusavu on a fine day is incredible, Have your camera ready.
In all we had a fantastic time, it is slower than our rat races and nature at it's best. Enjoy. 10 days is NOT to long
Glad you enjoyed the trip :)
I did, it was amazing! So relaxing, no pressure and we loved exploring the coast line. Tho have to say that on the maps it's looks like the road travels up the coast, with a beach in reach, where in fact it doesn't. We travelled miles and miles hoping to come around a corner to see a beach ( as we would in NZ) but after holding our breath, we turned around and went back the way we came......however.....it was worth the trip as we met some lovely Fijians who invited us for lunch and to stay the night in their village, we didn't, but how wonderful was that, and also saw some amazing sights even tho on that particular day we didn't get near the beach. We did however travel the Hibiscus Road and found some amazing little beaches.
We loved our relaxed stay enjoyed all that Savusavu had to offer, and would recommend it to anybody that wants a non touristy, relax, natural, holiday.
Thanks for all the detailed information Br0nze. It really helps me to picture things. Thanks for your time! I am so excited for this trip.
