Area recommendations for a young family

Hello, we will be traveling to Goa for the first time in December for two weeks. We are a couple with two kids aged two and four. We have been recommended to stay in the South but after research I still don't know what area to narrow the hotel search down to.

We want to be within walking distance to a beach that ideally is calm enough for a bit of swimming as well as a variety of restaurants and shops. We'd like a clean and friendly hotel with a child-friendly pool and any extra family-friendly features are a bonus but don't want or need a sterile 5 star chain. We don't want to stay in an isolated location and want to be sure we can experience Goa. As you can guess night life is not a priority :-)

Any advice on which areas in the south sound most suitable for us?

Thank you in advance!

Hi,why not look at benaulim, plenty of restaurants, lovely beach and great shacks ,we've been going to benaulim for the last 4 xmas and new years staying in la grace resort ,we are a family of 5 ,the resort has 3 bed villas ,2 bed apartments and hotel rooms all of which are excellent, also it has a very nice pool and restaurant. We stay on a bed and breakfast tariff, the beach is a 15-20 minute walk away but the hotel supply's a free open back bus to the beach and return pickup .the complex is a 10 minute walk to all the shops and restaurants in the town ,hope this helps

Benaulim is good ,but for more scenic beaches Palolem would be a better option.Safe beach for swimming and lots of activities like kayaking and paddling, loads of scenic beaches nearby like Agonda, patnem etc.

There are a couple of mid range hotels with pool you can check.

Palolem beach resort

Fern gardenia.

If pool is not much of a priority you can stay at a good beach hut,its being just a few steps from the sea and you can acess the beach as and when you want.

Thanks @nottingham. La Grace seems like it would be a good fit but it appears to not be available on our dates. Any other recommendations in the area are welcome :-)

@Goaexotic we will definitely be spending lots of time at the beach but like to break up the day a bit with some time at each. Our son is also learning to swim which is much easier in a pool than the ocean. I will check out Palolem as well.

Hi Lunapants,

Try Royal Orchid at Utorda in South Goa. It is 5 minute walk from the sea, has beautiful swimming pool, several good eating places nearby (Zeebop, Martin's corner etc). Normally December hotel prices will be on higher side but this one cost effective than a 5 star residence & it is quite big in hotel area.

Do take a look at the recent review of a regular TA visitor to Goa
