Good driver and guide Rajasthan and Kerala

Hi everyone – I have been creating and reviewing our India trip itinerary and think I finally have it pretty much nutted out! I would like to find a good driver/guide for the cities and places that we go to. Can anyone recommend for the following areas please?

We arrive Delhi on a flight from Trivandrum 19 Sep at 1025am. We would like a driver to pick us up from the airport and drive to Agra (possibly spend a bit of time in Delhi first if there is time). 1n Agra.

20 Sep drive to Jaipur via Fatephur Sikri. 2n Jaipur.

22 Sep drive to Udaipur and stop somewhere overnight enroute – maybe Shahpura? Then 2N Udaipur

Then we fly to Goa on the 25th of Sep (arrive 1305) and spend 3n there.

28 Sep fly to Cochin (arriving at 1220) and drive to Munnar. 2n Munnar.

30 Sep drive to backwaters area and do a half day houseboat tour I think. 1n backwaters hotel. Not sure where yet.

01 Oct drive to Cochin and spend 1n Cochin. Depart at 1700 02 Oct.

I ahve posted this in both the Rajasthan and Kerala forums. I know some people are for and others against doing this but we would like a driver/guide for each part of the trip and wanted to give some context.

Hi GenevieveAndAdam

There are quite a few well reviewed tour operators and drivers on TA, and you should be able to obtain different quotes to suit your needs. I chose to use TGS which specialises in Rajasthan, and the driver provided was wonderful (a very good driver and he also seemed to understand the aussie sense of humour). I am just beginning to do some research for a possible trip to the south next year, and because I have so much confidence in TGS I have already contacted the company to get some recommendations for the south. I suggest you check the reviews of TGS and other drivers and tour companies and work from there.

I spent a night at Shahpura Bagh and it was wonderfully relaxing and gives you a chance to wander in a village.

I will look forward to hearing about your south India section. Enjoy your trip

A driver was recommended on another thread:

I am from Cochin, but currently in Singapore. But, I am willing to help out in any way I can.

For the Rajasthan part of your journey, beginning with a pick up at New Delhi airport, I recommend the driver who took us safely and patiently through Rajasthan three years ago. His name is Papu, at least that's what he suggested we call him. You'd need to phone him on +91 941 4369 416. He drove an airconditioned Tata and I'd definitely use him again should I be lucky enough to be travelling through Rajasthan again. He was very reasonably priced and a pleasure to deal with - a real gentleman.

As for the south India part of your journey, I recommend you check the Channai (Madras) Forum of TripAdvisor for the 24 Feb post "Excellent Driver for South India".

It contains at least three recommendations - I recently added the name of the driver we used in January 2012. His name is Muthu and his email address is muthu_t5@yahoo.co.in.
