suggestion is to book a driver for day tour to bring you to those places, otherwise you are wasting a lot of travelling and waiting times for public transport.

Suggested sequence of travel:

From Taipei Ximending > Summit Resort

Board MRT to Taipei Main Station;

Board express railway train to Fongyuan Railway Station;

Board Fongyuan bus #91 to Zhongxingling;

Hire cab to Summit Resort (about 3 km distance)

----------------------------------------------------------------

From Summit Resort > Hou-li Zhongshe Flower Market

Hire cab back to Zhongxingling;

Board Fongyuan bus #91 back to Fongyuan Railway Station;

Board local train to Tai-an Railway Station. Walk approx. 1.6 km (about 20 mins walk) to Jhong-she Flower Market OR disembark at Hou-li Railway Station, then take a short cab ride (about 4.4 km distance). More cabs available at Hou-li Railway Station.

---------------------------------------------------------------

From Zhongshe Flower Market > Gaomei Wetlands

Board local train at Tai-an or Hou-li Railway Station back to Fongyuan Railway Station;

Board Fongyuan bus #182 or #185 to Cingsui;

Board Jhu-ye bus #178 or #179 to Gaomei Wetlands.

As amigoluv mentioned, you can expect to waste a lot of travelling and waiting times for public transport. Buses are few (about 5~6 trips/day for some of the bus services). It will be rushed to visit these three places in a day trip from Taipei city.

If I were to book a cab, how much will it cost for the day trip on average?

Estimated cab fare NT$3000~NT$3500 (max 4 persons in a cab)

Suggest you obtain quotes from cab drivers based in Taichung.
