Help with a suggested itinery

Hi everyone, We are travelling to Thailand next month for 3 weeks, although most of the time will be spent on Koh Samui for a wedding and in Ko Tao to see friends (and dive). However, we REALLY want to see floating markets, tiger temple, erawan falls, bridge on river Kwai, and also want some historic WW2 activities (recommendations please) whilst we are in the Kanchanaburi area. I have seen several tour companies offering this kind of itinerary, but we'd rather DIY kinda trip. My question is, roughly how long will we need to be in Kanchanaburi to do all of the following? im thinking 2 full days and one night? or 2 nights? If anyone could help me out AT ALL with ideas of how to get between each attraction and a possible itinery for them?

Hi Tony,

If time permits you could spend three days in the Kanchanaburi area. You will need about half a day to visit the Tiger Temple. On another day you could take a bus from Kanchanaburi town (1.5 hours away) and visit the Hellfire Pass (route of Death Railway) and the WW 2 museum. On the same day you could visit the Hot Springs beyond the Hellfire Pass and closer to Thong Pha Phum. You could also stop off at Nam Tok. There are also museums in Kanchanaburi town, the Jeath War museum is close to the Bridge while the Thai-Burma WW 2 museum is within a few meters of the main railway station (opposite the main war cemetery). Just south of town is yet another war museum which is also well worth a visit.

There are several buses a day to the Erawan Falls from Kanchanaburi bus station but do note that the last one back to town is at 16.00.

Hi Tony

The first day would be your arrival day and if you can arrive by morning, you could do the Tiger Temple in the afternoon. That takes up all the afternoon already.

For the next day, I would suggest travelling via a song teow (open air taxi) if you want to keep the costs down a bit. And then you can go to Dunlop Weary Museum (you can check the photos here - https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.629118317114438.146979.296425870383686&type=3) and then head on to Hellfire Pass which is not too far from this place.

There is also another museum, Ban Kao Natonal Museum which is on the same route as the other two. But I am told this is closed on Monday and Tuesday.

And you could squeeze in the Hot Springs after Hellfire Pass if you time is properly.

But if you wish for Erawan on the same day, then you will have to forgo the other two museums as Erawan is in a totally different route.

And of course, there are all those other places that is within the city area that AjarnAndy has mentioned.

Hi judyksp,

Thank your for this link to:-

Perhaps you could place it like I have done in a line on its own as the copy and paste is not really user friendly is it? as you put a ) at the end that does not work in your link.

Please use the KISS principle, a very old DOS (dics operating sysytem) saying, Keep it Simple Silly.
