Travel from Nara to Ise?

Planning a trip to Japan, and for one leg want to go from Osaka to Nara to Ise. By public transit. Have a JR pass, although it looks like that won't work to get to Ise. Anyway, I've figured out travel from Osaka to Nara, but am struggling to figure out how to get to Ise from there.

Any advice appreciated.

JR Pass holders should ride JR train Nara - Kyoto - Nagoya - Ise.

alternatively, you can ride a non-JR Bus from Nara to Nagoya, and JR train to Ise

alternatively, you can ride ultra slow&rural JR train Nara - Kameyama - Ise(middile route)

alternatively, you can ride relatively fast non-JR train Nara - Yamato Yagi - Ise(south route)

99% of all travelers between Nara and Ise will travel by Kintetsu Railway and its Ltd Exp via Yamato Saidaiji and Yamato Yagi, but JR Pass holders if they must stick to JR Pass they would have to use it via Kyoto (and Nagoya) or Kizu. Nara and Mie Prefectures are Kintetsu Empire and JR has infrequent runs on old tracks; which make them attractive if you want slow travel ... but not very practical.

See whether the outlandish JR Nara-Kizu-Kameyama-Iseshi route works for you (fun, actually), or whether you can compromise by going to Sakurai and switching to Kintetsu to get to Ise.

The area between Mie and Nara Prefecture is notoriously mountainous; in the old days of steam locomotives, the national railway diverted its tracks to plains north around Lake Biwa; its steam private competitor managed to construct a shortcut route through the valleys between Kameyama and Kizu. But Kintetsu's predecessor was a real game changer, drilling long tunnels through southern mountain ranges (especially through the Aoyama Pass) and running Express trains on electric units. Kintetsu won the competition and now has mainline networks around Nara, Kyoto, Nagoya, and Ise; JR has been struggling in these areas with diesel trains going through the countryside (again, quite fun if you are interested in slow travel through laid back countryside, but it's not practical).
