Minas Gerais for 2 days

Hi! Me and my friend are going to Minas Gerais for 2 full days and we are looking for best way to organize our itinerary. We try to avoid car renting and i was wondering, if someone know some English speaking tours? If not, i think we'll try the buses. Our main goal is Ouro Preto and Mariana and anything we can squeeze in those 2 days. Any help will be appreciated.

Ouro Preto is about six hours by car from Rio. Its main attractions besides the entire colonial old town are its many churches.

Top things to do in Ouro Preto:

Historic Town of Ouro Preto:

Black Gold:

Getting to and around Ouro Preto is easiest by car, but there are also overnight buses from Rio's main bus station, Novo Rio.

If you've only two days Ouro Preto + Mariana is the maximum you can likely fit in.

Tours for small groups are not so easy to arrange, but you could try rentalocalfriend.com and book an English-speaking guide (with a car) based in Belo Horizonte. Maybe the site above also has guides in OP, but I'm not sure of that.

Mariana is just an hour from OP; we did it as a day trip from OP, so you dont need to change hotels to do both...

we went to OP on our own and then took an organized tour to Mariana (which also made a stop in an old gold mine); many places in OP will sell that ... cant remember if English was available.... but I remember seeing a large group from Israel at one of the stops, so there may be something in English...

I went with a European friend - who completely freaked out with driving in OP... all those steep hills and the slippery cobblestone pavement in town... I would avoid driving in OP if you are not used to that.... and you can basically walk to most attractions in OP itself; quite compact.

bus from Belo Horizonte to OP quite easy.. about two hours from BH main bus station (Rodoviaria); and a lot of buses every day:
