Foz de Iguacu to Bonito (via Dourados)

Hello my girlfriend and I are hoping to travel from Foz to Bonito later this week, the route via Dourados seems fastest.

Does anyone know if the Foz to Dourados bus still exists?

If nit, is via Campo Grand the best option?

I guess that means no direct bus to Dourados, change in Cascavel necessary.

Dont understand the first link, what is Vanzella?

Vanzella will charter buses to tour groups going from Foz to Bonito; probably it will not help you... it does however provide daily transfer between Campo Grande and Bonito...

Foz to Bonito by bus is a pain in the back in terms of logistics...

try these links and see if you can work out a schedule...

Foz to Cascavel:

https:/…

Cascavel to Dourados:

https:/…dourados

Dourados to Bonito:

https:/…

dont forget that Dourados and Bonito are in state of Mato Grosso do Sul... that means they are in a different time zone: one hour behind Brasília time (which applies to entire state of Paraná: Foz; Cascavel etc).

[I remember that people used to take a bus that was going from Foz to some point in state of MS (maybe Campo Grande?) and then get off somewhere mid point (Dourados?) to then catch another one to Bonito... cant remember details or if option still available... check around the Foz and Bonito forums here and other sources on the web,,,]

Hi, did you find a way to do this route? I#m interested in it too,

And if you made. What where the times you went off in Iguazu and when did you arrive in Bonito?

Thanks in advance

We ended up going via Campo Grande. Left Foz at 6pm and arrived in Campo Grande at 7am. Left campo grande at 8am and arrived in Bonito at about 11.30am. Wasn't very cheap but was pretty easy and comfortable.

The bus we took (Eucatur) also stopped in Dourados sometime during the night so that might be an option (station seemed pretty safe and not a bad place to wait).

We bought tickets in advance for both buses

I just contacted Vanzella (via the WhatsApp # listed on their webpage). They have a bus that makes this trip but only when there is demand. For example their next trip is currently scheduled for 28/1, but they didn't have anything planned beyond that. Price is R$250 per person, 1/2 for a child.

Thanks for the info. I'm a bit surprised tho. Thought this route would be used more frequently.

In an old lonelyplanet thread someone suggested to stopover in dourados. Get out there at 3:30 and take the next bus 6:30. But I did not think it would cost that much like 250 Real.

A flight to campo grande costs less than 250 Real if you book 1 month in advance ...

There has to be a cheaper option, hopefully.

Hi, I think that part of the problem is that most Brazilian tourists aren't the backpacker types but rather go on organized tours. As a result the volume of potential passengers is too small to get non-stop bus routes between Foz and Bonito operating without a loss.

Also a fair observation that costs of busing is fairly high and in fact similar in price to going by plane. The problem with Bonito though is that the cheap flights end in Campo Grande (CGR), requiring additional cost and time for the land transfer to Bonito. (Only Azul flies to BYO airport but those flights are much more expensive - no competition and maybe more expensive airport fees / landing rights.)

If you're going by bus, I think that you're looking at around R$210 minimum price. Here is what I came up with after a bit of searching:

Foz to Cascatel: R$43 -- Princesa dos Campos has several daily buses.

https:/…

Cascatel to Dourados: R$80 -- Eucatur has several daily buses, both excetivos and convecional with airconditioning.

https:/…

Dourados to Bonito: R$85 -- 2 daily buses with Cruzeiro do Sul

https://www.cruzeirodosulms.com.br/passagens/

Finally, you can no doubt also bus to Campo Grande first and then to Bonito, but I imagine this would take extra time and could be more expensive. (I haven't checked that though.)

Good luck!

Hey gg, this is an excellent answer.

I thought brasil and SA as a whole is backpacking mekka with good bus connections, because there are no trains ...

I will check if your route is saving us time, instead of going to campo grande by either plane or bus.

Thanks!
