Place to stay for 4 26 year olds?

Headed to Rio & Buzios in the next month with 3 guys and 1 girl. We are going to stay in the Buzios for the weekend. Is it better to stay in the town nears the restaurants/bars or should stay along the beaches. Is there a good location for both. We want to stay at a nice hotel or B&B but are looking to for the young adult crowd. Is there much night life in Buzios?

Búzios is a beach resort with a very active nightlife with over 20 beaches in the vicinity. Check out the links for info about where to stay.

You definitely want to stay near the center, but not necessarily in the center. You say that you are going to Buzios "in the next month"... Semana Santa is early in the month and you will find the prices a bit higher then than they are after the middles of the month - say after the 15th or so. After the 15th almost all of the pousadas and hotels have switched down to the low season (temporada baixa) rates. You can easily stay near the inbetween the center and several of the best beaches (Azeeda-Azedinha, Joao Fernandes, Brava, Forno and Ferradura) by selecting a hotel east of the center. If you stay out near Geriba, be forewarned that the vans stop running around midnight which may leave you at the mercy of the taxis late at night... instead of the R$2 van ride back to Geriba you may be looking at a R$30+ taxi ride.. the later the hour, the more you appear intixicated and "not Brasilian" the higher the price.... so the lower rate of a Geriba pousada may not actually be a lower rate, as you are certain to be in the center late at night...The center is where 90%+ of the better bars, restaurants etc are for the night life - the famous Rua Das Pedras. Also, look for a pousada where you are certain to have english speaking staff as there is a lot of information that you just will not get if you do not speak portuguese or spanish unless you stay at a place with a fluent english staff.

When in Buzios, I always prefer to stay closer to the night scene than to the beaches - though being in the surroundings of Rua das Pedras (the emblematic pedestrian street) does not mean you are far from the beach.

Best place to stay in my opinion is the Morro do Humaitá (a small hill), where you are at a foot distance to some beaches and at a short walk to Rua das Pedras as well. But consider that the Inn´s at Morro do Humaitá are ususally more expensives.

I would agree with Gusdali that Morro do Humaita is one of the very best places to stay in Buzios. Most of the accomodations there are a quite a bit more expensive than in other locations, however I found Pousada Saint Germain to be cheap for Morro do Humaita and moderately priced in comparison to other locations. When you factor in that you can walk the center in less than 10 minutes along Orla Bardot and to many of the best beaches in 15 to 20 minutes, thus not needing to spend money on vans, cabs or parking.. the cost of staying on Morro do Humaita is not as high as you might think.
