Bus from Iasi to Chisinau

Are the buses that run on a regular basis between Iasi and Chisinau large enough to accommodate luggage? My husband and I would like to travel to Chisinau on the bus but will each have a moderate sized suitcase and backpack. Is the luggage taken on board the bus or is it stored underneath the bus?

Not really, most of them are minibuses (vans). They usually have a storage area in the back; be there (at the bus station across the road from Iasi's main train station) at least half hour before departure to find that storage area empty enough.

There also trains

An overnight one that doesn't run every day which has to have its bogies changed at the frontier and a daytime one from a temporary station just outside Iasi at a freight yard at Socola where the dual gauge track leads to Moldova. There was talk of extending the dual track into Iasi

Trying to find up to date information, perhaps some locals can help

The overnight train runs daily at this time (Iasi main station 03:10 > Chisinau 09:27). The other one, from Socola station, departs at 17:02 and arrives in Chisinau at 21:15.
