Fresh Seafood Markets

Fresh Seafood Markets

Coming down in mid July and I've seen a lot of posts on here about getting fresh royal reds and cooking them st the condo. Where are the best places to get fresh seafood, and would you recommend going ahead and getting it steamed/cooked prior to taking it back?

For reference points, we'll be staying in Orange Beach down near the Caribe.

Any other good restaurant suggestions down that way would be much appreciated too. Thank you all in advance.

Drive north on Hwy 59 to County Road 10. Drive west a couple of miles on CR 10 to Billy's or to Aquilla. Both have royal reds and can steam them for you. BTW, royal reds are always quick frozen on the boat and arrive at the market in that form. They are taken much farther offshore than other varieties of shrimp.

Thank you. So are you recommending a different kind of shrimp that will be more fresh? Any advice or suggestions would be very appreciated

Thanks Felschurch. What do you recommend for shrimp, and any other fresh seafood that is good & easy to cook at the condo that you would recommend?

I rec the biggest, best in your budget for hands eating. Remember if you buy heads on you lose about a third of weight when you dehead so do math at market. Lately I have asked for free steaming. Simply easier.

Buy some readymade cocktail sauce.

Tuna is wonderful..cook like steak..slightly rare.

Crabmeat is fabulous. Add breadcrumbs, seasoning, saute as patty or use in fresh salad

Another dish for small uncooked shrimp. Saute in olive oil, add italian spices, toss in cooked pasta. Cheaper for large family. Good use for leftover large shrimp too

Excellent advice. Thank you. Hadn't thought about Tuna, but that would be great. So you recommend royal reds, or smaller shrimp? Are the royal reds going to be less "fresh"?

I like the white shrimp better than the royal reds I've had. Maybe get both & see what you like best.

If you go to Billy's in Bon Secour, Tin Top is a good restaurant. Fisher's in OB is good too.

My favorite thing to do is stay on the beach til sunset & then cook. :) no waits, no need to dress up, etc.
