What to do for the day in Wasilla?

The guys are going to be fishing all day in Wasilla. Any suggestions for what the gals should do? Any good shopping in Wasilla or any nearby towns that are worth a visit for the day?

Assuming you will have a car you could go visit the Independence Mine up at Hatcher Pass or head towards Palmer to visit Matanuska Glacier. Without wheels you will find it hard to walk around Wasilla. You could go over to Lake Lucille and look at Sarah's house.

Wasilla is a long strip & not known for good shopping. The Iditarod Headquarters might interest you. Check out "Things to Do" here on the Wasilla Forum. You might want to drive over to Palmer, the Musk Ox Farm, the Reindeer Farm, take a picnic lunch up Hatcher Pass to the mine which is a beautiful drive. You can learn more about those 2 farms on the Palmer Forum under things to do. Palmer has a quaint town center & I find more enjoyable than Wasilla.

If you're open to Palmer as an option (with wheels) you may want to consider taking the Knik Glacier tour. It could easily be coupled with one or maybe even both of the animal farms in Palmer.

You could drive the Old Glenn Highway, some history in the route

From downtown Wasilla travel south on Knik-Goosebay Road to Fairview Loop. Turn left onto Fairview Loop and go south to 4-way intersection. Continue straight onto Hayfield Road. A few miles down on the left is the turn off for the Palmer Hay Flats/ Cottonwood Creek. Park at the parking area before the big hill and walk a couple of hundred feet to the Scout Ridge Overlook. Beautiful view.

Drive out to the Matanuska Glacier and go for a hike with MICA guides. Beautiful drive, great guides, really nice up close glacier experience

Are you sure they are fishing in Wasilla or are they going out of Willow? Not familiar with many fishing opportunities in Wasilla (other than some lakes for trout) and we visit there every summer.
