if you want a beautiful ocean view, stay in a place on Moonstone Beach- it's a wonderful place. Have stayed at the Blue Whale Inn (lovely, pricey- don't stay in Rm 6- it's next door to the laundry). Fog Catcher is nice- has some good deals, and super comfy beds/fireplaces. You get a pretty decent breakfast included. Has a nice small pool and jacuzzi, which some hotels don't have. Little sur is also nice, with front facing ocean view rooms. Pelican cove I hear is also nice, but pricey.

MUST eat at the Sea Chest- get there 1/2 to 1 hr before opening, they don't do reservations. Eat at the counter- fun to watch all the cooking, and Steve the owner/cook is a nice guy. Best thing is to get a bunch of goodies from the local market and have a picnic on the clifts above the beach. Take a drive up 101 to ragged point- approx. 30 min.... Its the start of Big Sur, and is amazing. THere is a hotel there too,and fun gift shop. But the views are spectacular. We have never stayed. Have FUN!

If you want to be near the beach, stay at one of the motels on moonstone. We just got back from Cambria and stayed at Castle Inn. It was decent.

Burton Inn is a B&B and it's in town off of Main St. There's lots of interesting shops and restaurants near there. Linn's & Sow's Ear are right around the corner on Main.

We have stayed at the Blue Whale and the Cypress Cove Inn before they merged with Pelican Suites. Loved the property there. We had an oceanview/king room with a fireplace on the second floor. Very nice.

I'll second the Sea Chest for great seafood and the Sow's Ear is always very good, also. Fermentations and the Seekers Gallery are nice places to visit while in Cambria.
