Snorkeling -- best visibility/best sea life/calmest area(s)?

I will be in area (1st time) for weekend with friend (staying Dana Pt Ritz) end of June. We are both certified divers, would like a nice area to snorkel while there -- I see couple people mention Laguna Beach, and specifically Shaw's Cove and Crescent Bay area -- can anyone give us any specifics on these areas? pros/cons or any other recommended area nearby?? hear the ocean can be cold -- should we pack our wetsuits?? ANY insight appreciated!

I'm afraid I'm not a diver so can't advise you from personal experience. Here are the TA reviews of Shaw's Cove: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Revie… (scroll down for comments about diving and snorkeling) and Crescent Bay

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Revie… (only one review and not about diving).

Here is some detailed information about Shaw's Cove from a dive shop web site: ecodivecenter.com/content/shaws-cove-in-lagu…

Yea, thanks, I did read these ... Wondered if anyone had any personal experience in one of these areas ( or any other nearby)

The Eco dive center link is helpful ... Did not see that one ... Thanks ... Still if anyone has personal experience on best area specifically to enter, calmest water (what to look for if risk of "rip tide" or current) or any other helpful first hand pointers, would be appreciated!

Yes you should pack wetsuits and calm/visibility is anyone's guess the same is true for rip currents, they will change based on conditions.

Cresent Bay was where our class did the snorkling check out ( in 1970 ! ). We went in April and it was fairly rough that day. Water at southern California beaches is rarely over 70. June is usually foggy/cloudy. I would take/rent a wetsuit.
