Los Angeles

Los Angeles

Hi, we are a family of 4 including two kids, and would like to visit the Los Angeles area.

We would like to visit Universal Studios, Hollywood sign, Walk of fame, Drive around sunset boulevard and rodeo Drive, Santa Monica Pier, Long Beach, And Downtown LA. We are seeing things more on the west side this time because we have seen the other sides in earlier trips. But, We can not really figure how to sort out when to see each thing. We will be staying at the Montrose Hotel.

Some help would be appreciated thanks!!!

Just do one place each day.

Day 1. Universal Studios

Day 2. Hollywood Sign

Day 3. Walk of Fame

Day 4. Sunset Blvd

Day 5. Rodeo Drive

Day 6. Santa Monica Pier

Day 7. Long Beach

Finally Day 8. Downtown LA.

Thats what I would do in that order.

Post 1 has given misleading advice- much of what you lost can be combined into one day.

The Sign you see from afar, you don’t go to it. Hollywood and “Sunset” and Universal can be combined in a day, you drive Sunset to get to Universal from Le Montrose and Hollywood takes little time to see. Look up and there’s the sign.

Santa Monica is a full day.

What did you want to see in Long Beach?

Will you have a car? How old are your kids?

Long Beach is fun, and it's a day trip via car, so no worreies. The Aquarium of the Pacific is excellent. Go on a harbor cruise there as well.

You can see the Hollywood sign closer if you visit Griffith Observatory, use the short trail behind the building to an overlook of the sign. And yes, do the entire Hollywood things in one day. In fact, you can finish that day by including La Brea Tar Pits - they are really unique, dinner and movie at The Grove/Original Farmers Market.

I would include a day in Malibu if you can (or combine it with Santa Monica), PCH through Malibu is 27 miles of scenic views, lots of beaches to stop at, tidepooling at Leo Carillo State Beach, run down the big sand dune near Leo Carillo and more:

Hollywood sign is a huge hike in the heat to get to it. Just take a road trip down sunset and snap a photo from afar. Check out Beverly Hills on your way to Santa Monica. On this trip, you can see the sign. Do downtown in a day.

Look up Lake Hollywood Park for a decent view of the Hollywood sign. The park is tricky to get to, though. You have to ignore the deceptive signs posted by local residents saying there is no through route to access the sign itself, which is technically true (in the sense that you can’t drive directly to it).

Yikes! The Hollywood sign, Walk of Fame, Sunset, Rodeo is barely a half day. Universal Studios is not quite a full day. Santa Monica could be a full day.
