Transportation from San Pedro Pier 93 to Las Vegas.

Does anyone know if there are buses or shuttles that will pick up people from a cruise ship at San Pedro Pier 93 L.A. to Las Vegas.

That would be quite a shuttle -- 4-1/2 to 5-1/2 hours!

One option would be to take a 'shared van' to Long Beach Airport (airport code: LGB) and then a jetblue.com flight to LAS.

The shared van would run $16 per person and take about an hour (including waiting time for the van). The flight would cost about $80 per person including taxes and fees and would take about an hour. Las Vegas' airport is just 5 or 10 minutes from most of the hotels on the Las Vegas Strip so the entire transfer would take a little over 3 hours (including the requirement of being at LGB 1 hour before departure).

Another option is to arrange for transfer via the Amtrak (national rail) network. If you order through Amtrak, you'll end up on 2 buses (not a train) since there is no rail service in either San Pedro nor Las Vegas. The problem is:

There is only one bus per day picking up at San Pedro and it's at 9:05 a.m. The ships usually start the disembarking process at around 7:00 but it can take 3 hours to empty a large ship. If you disembark too late, you'll miss the bus. In addition, the cost of the transfer is $63 compared to $96 for the 'shared van + plane" alternative. While this is a savings of $33 per person, you would have a 4+ hour layover at Union Station (between buses) and you wouldn't arrive in LV until 20:35 (compared with 12:51 or, at the worst, 16:00.

And, of course, if you missed the bus, you'd have additional expenses associated with transferring to Union station to meet the onward bus.

Your best bet is to catch a flight to Las Vegas. You can pick up JetBlue from LBT, and several airlines fly from LAX. Southwest operates the most flights from there.

Regardless of airline, expect to pay roughly $49 + tax (total $59.60) for the flight. Southwest allows two checked bags for free, and JetBlue allows one. All other airlines charge for checked baggage.

The bus option described above isn't technically allowed, because the San Pedro-Los Angeles portion of the trip must be booked in combination with a train trip. As HSK pointed out, there would be no train travel on this particular journey.

For a viable land option, you will have to walk outside to the street in front of the port, then catch Metro Express Line 445 (http://www.metro.net) to downtown Los Angeles. There, you can catch a Greyhound bus either at Union Station (fewer options, but recommended) or the Greyhound station (more options, but not recommended). The bus from Union Station needs to be booked through Amtrak (as HSK pointed out) even though it is operated by Greyhound, while the bus from the Greyhound station needs to be booked through Greyhound.

I agree with HSJ and Davdaven. A suppershuttle or PrimeTime shuttle to LGB or LAX, then a flight. By far the best transfer possible.

Oops, I meant LGB. LBT stands for Long Beach Transit. I can't keep my acronyms straight! *blush*

Oops, I meant SuperShuttle, not Suppershuttle. Wow, a new idea though, suppershuttle where you would get a ride and a meal.

Thanks everyone for replies. Going to LAX from Pier 93 and flying to Las Vegas with Southwest appears to be the best option.
