Don't go to the Visitors Center Lot. Pay $2 to park for an hour and within 5 minutes get a $40 ticket for having rear bumper over the line. Oh yes, the lot was probably 80 to 90 percent empty. I don't recommend Santa Barbara as a fun place to go. If you must go, make sure all parts of the car are inside the lines and I'm talking inches.

>>>I live in the US, in Indiana, and I've never heard of getting a ticket for your rear bumper over the line either.<<<

Well every city does have its own parking laws, but I cannot imagine ANY city where it is okay to park over the lines.

Please see below the municipal code for Indianapolis (Chapter 621) that defines it as illegal to not park within the lines.

I am pretty sure every jurisdiction in the U.S. and Canada has similar laws.

LOL drill-n-fill :-) I confess had no idea when Edsels were made other than sometime in the 1950's. Carl B probably does not appreciate any of our attempts at humour anyway...

Sign in front said -- 90 minute parking. Never got ticket in our lives (in our 70s) Find one under wiper back at hotel. Said we were parked in red zone $58. Wanted to contest but because it was a rented car we would wind up having to pay $30 to rental agent if we lost because Santa Barbara told us they would contact them instead of us even though they had our name and address. Don't think we will go back there.

Doesn’t matter what the sign says... did you park in the red?

Parking in red zone. Like they say, if you do the crime you do the time.

Sign in front of what? Where? I don't mean just the town, I mean whereabouts was the sign in relation to where you parked? And most importantly, were you parked alongside a curb or other markings painted red?

>>Find one under wiper back at hotel.<<

Hmmm . . . you were parked in a legitimate space in the hotel parking lot? Or were you parked at one side or another in a red zone that most likely said No Parking since it was a fire or emergency lane?

Always two sides to every story. Always ;-)

Well, just so you are aware, this is an oldish post that resufaced in post 33.

Parking is not difficult: read the signs, stay between the lines of your specific parking space, park in the same direction as traffic is flowing, pay a meter if you have to, take out your magic $800 computer/phone that you only use for social media, set a timer so you are back before your time expires.

But I'm not in the mood to bash Santa Barbara after the terrible December/January, loss of business, lives, and peace of mind they have been suffering right now.

There are bigger and worse problems than your parking ones.

Happens in Australia too. Mostly, the police won't bother, but parking inspectors will. Count yourself lucky. from a fellow Brisbane traveller.
