Suggested wineries in Santa Barbara for SWEET WINE lovers

Hello, natives. My husband and I will be visiting the Santa Barbara area for the first time after a conference in LA for a few days at the end of June, and we are SWEET WINE LOVERS ONLY. I know, I know. Lots of people feel it's not real wine. Our taste buds only like sweet. Not semi-sweet. VERY sweet. Or meads. (NO BEERS!) So we'd like your advice on any wineries to visit that have a nice selection of sweet wines.

We've done many NJ and PA wine tours, and just hate it when we drive all the way to a winery and they say, "Oh, sorry. We don't have sweet wines, or only 1 sweet wine."

Would love your guidance. THANKS!

What are you calling a sweet wine?

In general, sweet wines need more heat, which Santa Barbara does not get, even in its warmer microclimates. You may need to look into Paso Robles, or even Lodi or Modesto.

Not many selections of sweet wines in Paso Robles. A winery may offer one dessert wine but I'm seeing that less and less.

Grape juice with a kick. Sangria. Moscato. Some Port wines. Fruit wines. Ice wines. We have a to of them here in the Northeast.

There is a winery in Avila Beach called Kelsey Sea Canyon that has some wine made from apples, I think. Not sure you're going that far north.

The west coast is not a carbon copy of the east coast, sometimes we need to celebrate those differences.

Here's a good article for you to understand our climate zones, where some varieties of grapes are grown and where they are not grown. I feel reading through it might give you information on what region to look for those sweet wines, as I've seen your question on the San Diego, LA and Santa Barbara forums.

Here are some specific California sweet wines to try, do a websearch to find the winery.

Go to Trader Joe's and get a bottle of Frambuesa.

When you get to California, try to find a retailer that sells Bonny Doon Frambuesa. That stuff is to die for! If you make it up to SF, you could visit their winery in the Santa Cruz mountains and buy a bottle there.
