Where to stay on road trip?

Hi

We are spending 2 nights travelling down from SF to Cambria and back. Our second night is in Cambria, and trying to figure out if Santa Cruz is too close to SF for the 1st night and we should rather stay in Monterrey? Want to go to Carmel 1st day and then back to Monterrey/Santa cruz to sleep. Dream Inn in Santa Cruz looks awesome and Mariposa Inn in Monterrey.

Santa Cruz and Monterey are only 45 minutes from each other.

And, yes, the Dream Inn is awesome Every room has a balcony or patio overlooking the Bay. It was bought by the joie d' vivre hotel group a few years ago and completely rehabbed. It is next to the Municipal Wharf, with its seafood restaurants, but Pacific Avenue (the main street) is just several blocks away with many, many good eating places.

Have a nice trip.

If you want to stay in Santa Cruz proper, Dream Inn is the clear choice if it fits your budget. No other hotel comes close IMO.
