What''s the weather like in March?

Just wondering what the weather is typically like in March. Warm enough to swim? Anything else we should consider for a March visit?

It is usually overcast and rainy (60's-low 70's), however we can have beautiful sunny weather with temps in the 80's. Santa Monica tends to be 5-10 degrees cooler than inland temps though.

The new CPCs show that this March is meant to be very rainy is Southern California (rather typical).

Oh, man, not what I want to hear! But thanks for your responses!

Although I guess we could still have fun, despite possible rain? Thought Santa Monica would be a good base to go to Universal, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Malibu, etc. We're a family of 4; kids are 11 and 13.

Any thoughts?

We're supposed to have an El Nino season, meaning a wetter and warmer winter. As the other posters already mentioned, Jan, Feb, March is where we have the most rain. But there were years that I remembered when out of these 3 months we only had 1 day of rain.

Weather you just never know. For example, the past few days hit 90F in LA, that's pretty hot for end of October! Although, March would still be to cold to swim. According to Yahoo and Weather Channel, here are some averages in Santa Monica, a little cooler because it's by the coast:

For LA, here's the averages:

It tends to be warmer during the day, but can be chilly during the evening and mornings.

If you have a car, I think Santa Monica would be a good base for Universal Studios, Beverly Hills, Hollywood and Malibu.

Your children are the right ages to enjoy the Santa Monica Pier and Third Street. All the other reports about weather are correct. My only addition would be that it doesn't matter if it is July, you always have to be prepared for cooler weather and fog at the beach.

You didn't mention Disneyland. It is the same distance from Santa Monica as the other places you mention.

If you are talking about swimming in the ocean, we are not Hawaii. Our water is never warm. The surfers wear wet-suits even in the height of summer. So maybe playing on the beach and getting their feet wet but not much more.

Plan on jeans and sweatshirts and be happy if you can wear shorts at all!

Thank you all for your responses. We have booked our flights and are looking forward to a great time. Whatever the weather, it will definitely be nicer than March in Ontario!

We are not planning to go to Disneyland, mainly due to time constraints and a recent visit to Disney World--but perhaps will change our minds.

Any other advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated!
