Going soon to FMB, Recommend food and sights?

We'll be there soon. What are some favorite restaurants you want to mention? How is grocery shopping -- is there a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's? Or a local farmer's market (that would be fun to see)?

What are some other things to do -- we might go visit the Thomas Edison house, and possibly drive over to Sanibel Islands. I recall that there is a wonderful nature preserve on Sanibel.

Any other good nature preserves, or other places with good views, we should visit?

Just looking to have a visit that isn't totally lazy and not totally frantic or sports-related. Would also enjoy walking around areas with local architecture.

Thanks!

The only nice supermarket on the island is the Publix, just like any good grocery store. I like the Smokin Oyster Bar and the Beached Whale for good places to eat. For a really nice restaurant with great food look at Flippers on the Bay, my favorite restaurant on the island.

Lani Kai is on the north end of Ft Myers beach is one of our favorites. They have great fried oysters and you can sit outsite on a glider table and watch the beach and listen to the music and fun below It is in walking distance to the pier and Times Square bars and resturants and gift shops. The beach bars with live entertainment are in the area. Park in LaniKai and use the parking credit on food up in the resturants upstairs. Bring or rent a chaise. You can rent jetskies or lots of things on the beach. You can even rent a fishing pole on the pier. Watch for the dolphins too.

The above mentioned are good eating spots. Times Square has a number of places on/off the water. We like Pete's Time Out. Good food and good people watching - not on the water but in the square. Another good one is Coconut Jacks which is toward Bonita 4 or 5 miles. No real seasonal traffic that way so it is easier to get to than some of the places in town. No Trader Joe's or Whole Foods on near FMB. There is a Trader Joe's south toward Naples.

Searching for Lani Kai restaurant on TA, but only hotels by that name are listed. Is it apart of the hotel? Please provide more info to find it. Thank you

Definitely check our Sanibel Island. You may also head down and explore Bonita Springs and Naples area. That's a very nice area with beautiful things to see and some upscale places to eat if you are looking for that.

Lani Kai is a cheap hotel on the beach. The locals told us not to eat there. Just go up to the top for a drink at sunset.

Another restaurant we like away from Times Square, is Charley's Boathouse. Massive salad bar. We also like an Italian restaurant in Bonita Springs, Enzo's.
