Restaurants suggestions thread.

We need to add a restaurant FAQ - the best way to do this would be to add a link.

Since things have changed a little in the last year on the islands - I want to start an updated thread, which i'll use to make a FAQ with.

Please list your favorite restaurants by category.

Family Friendly

Breakfast

Dessert

Upscale

Waterfront

There is also a list of restaurants on the left hand side, with reviews by TA posters. Reviews are always taken with a grain of salt, especially if they are completed by one hit posters - which does not, unfortunately, provide us with a 'fair and balanced' read, in some cases...

Family Friendly

Island Cow (which I've reviewed)

Breakfast

Over Easy Cafe (which I've reviewed)

Dessert

Mermaid (have not reviewed, haven't been in a couple years and hope to revisit and review this spring)

Upscale

Just one!?

I guess Mad Hatter, though I haven't been in a couple years.

If you want only recommendations based on the past year, I'd go with Traders (which I've reviewed)

Waterfront

Mucky Duck (does Captiva count?) not for the food but the waterfront atmosphere

Mad Hatter if we're staying on Sanibel only

Can I make a suggestion? Add a favorite for "budget friendly" Jerry's would get my vote there.

Also an "overall favorite", my vote would be Doc Fords.

And "Best seafood", mine would be Gramma Dots.

Hope I am not stepping on toes Sunny, great idea to do a faq on this, just thought if I were searching for recs, I would like that additional info.

Breakfast-- Amy's Over easy

FamilyFriendly-- Island Cow

Dessert-- Bubble Room

Upscale- Thistle Lodge

Waterfront-- Mucky Duck for a beer, not the food.

Excellent suggestions - and by no means does anyone need to stick to my categories. Add whatever you want, and as many as you want.

In fact, I neglected to add dinner, sports bar and pizza.

Family Friendly - Matzaluna, Island Cow, Sanibel Grill, Lazy Flamingo.

Breakfast - Light House Cafe, Over Easy, The Sanibel Bean, RC Otters on Captiva, Sanibel Deli and Coffee Shop.

Dessert - Pinnochios, Sweet Treats and Eats. But hands down - Bubble Room on Captiva for cake.

Waterfront - Lazy Flamingo at Santiva, Mucky Duck for burgers or apps and drinks.

Sports Bar - Lazy Flamingo, Doc Fords, Biddles Bucket, Sanibel grill, Great White Grill.

Pizza - Matzaluna, Island Pizza.

Ah, excellent, I can add more content :).

I'll add Cheeburger Cheeburger as a secondary for Family Friendly.

For Sports Bar I'd have to go with Sanibel Grill.

And if Lazy Flamingo at Santiva qualifies as waterfront I might amend my vote to that. One of my favorite memories on Sanibel is a long hectic day getting there, finally arriving, and sitting there drinking cold beers and eating their delicious fried clams which happened to be on special that day. Sometimes you just have a perfect experience that has little if anything to do with what you actually ate, and that was one of those times.

Bean, is Sweet Treats open, all year? When I was there last summer I thought it had shut down, I even reported it had. But now I notice that they still have a website, and advertise in the paper. Did they shut for short time maybe? Or am I crazy?
