This is an excerpt from the Ft Myers News-Press
"Darling was going to have a ribbon-cutting today for its repaved Wildlife Drive. The closing will mean concessionaire Tarpon Bay Explorers will close and the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation will suspend water quality sampling at Tarpon Bay inside the wildlife refuge."
This means there will be no kayak rentals or tours and cruises from Tarpon Bay. Kayak rentals will be available at Castaways Marina and on Captiva from Captiva Canoe and Kayak in the village.
Also, please be aware the Everglades and Big Cypress will be CLOSED.
Lover's Key, Cayo Costa, and Corkscrew Swamp are OPEN as all are state parks - or in the case of Corkscrew Swamp, Audubon Society. Babcock Wilderness Adventures will also be running as will Adventures in Paradise boat trips leaving from Port Sanibel Marina in Punta Rassa just over the causeway. Naturally, Captiva Cruises will also be running.
If you are making plans to visit parks or attractions, be sure to call and check on their hours and open status.
This should NOT impact the beach project on Captiva unless required federal permits or other last minute inspections are unavailable. Locals and visitors should post any updates here.
Let's hope the Congress can manage to do their jobs before Ding Darling Days scheduled to start Oct 20th
