Staying 2 weeks in Des Plains

I will be in Des Plains for work for two weeks from 8/12-8/24. Can anybody tell me what there is to do in the evenings there? Are there any good restaurants?

I can't speak specifically about what is in Des Plaines. It does have a nice little downtown area, but the only restaurant I've been to in downtown Des Plaines is the Choo Choo, which is more kid-focused. However, there are lots of options within a relatively short drive. Des Plaines is close to Rosemont and all of the O'Hare area restaurants. Even Schaumburg and all of the restaurants and shopping there are within 15-20 minutes drive (depending on exactly where in Des Plaines you are). Also, the new Rivers Casino is in Des Plaines. So you should find some options you enjoy.

I'll probably make the drive down to Chicago one evening. Other than that I was hoping to stay close to avoid lots of driving. I'm guessing there isn't much to do outside of the casino.

The Best Western there. Staying since we have a work rate.

Nicer restaurants nearby are in Rosemont. Downtown Des Plaines, near the Metra commuter rail station, has a handful of mom and pop ethnic places. Edison Park in Chicago is nearby and has good bar/restaurants. You might want to take the CTA Blue Line from Rosemont one night and check out Wicker Park in Chicago. The Beacon Tap is a decent sports bar and close to your hotel.

I have a friend that lives in Lincoln Park, am I better off taking the train or driving down there?

I'm not sure what area she lives in. It will be during the week, probably Tuesday or Wednesday night. I will probably just drive.

There is a great family owned Italian restaurant called Giacomo's in DesPlaines. Make reservations as it is a very small place.

There are also some good spots in downtown Arlington Heights.
