Wedding anniversary in Geneva?

We are planning to celebrate our wedding anniversary/"babymoon" this year with a little getaway and are considering Geneva. The Herrington looks gorgeous, but we are wondering what there is to do in Geneva/how many days we should plan on spending there. We're looking at September/October. Thanks in advance for your tips!

A weekend stay is more than enough for that area - Fri and Sat nights stay.

As referenced to, in addition to Geneva, St Charles can also be visited which is about a 5-10 min. drive from Geneva. Both towns are cute, quaint and artsy. Lots of specialty shops in both towns - a favorite is the fabric store in St. Charles, I think(I'm pretty sure it's St Charles).

Both towns have nice riverwalk areas. There is a covered pedestrian bridge in St. Charles north of the police station on the east side of the river. If you have bicycles, maybe you can bring them with you since the paved pathway along the river extends for miles in both directions up/down river and do a picnic.

Since your dates are flexible try to time it with a festival - if that is an interest of yours. Geneva festival of the vine : www.genevachamber.com/festivalofthevine.html

St. Charles Scarecrow Festival : http://www.scarecrowfest.com/

St Charles also has a paddle wheel Fox River cruise which I've only seen and never been on.

The first weekend of every month is the monthly Kane County Flea Market in St. Charles. It is very popular. You can find everything from garage sale finds to nice antiques. Dates are Sept 6 & 7 and Oct 4 & 5: http://www.kanecountyfleamarket.com/

I would definitely stay at either the Hotel Baker (St. Charles) or The Herrington (Geneva). The Herrington is a bit more"upscale" however the Hotel Baker is also very nice and has historical value.

As the other poster mentioned...I would do 2 nights.

There are some wonderful shops in Geneva - you could spend an entire day walking along State Street and 3rd Streets. If you go during Festival of the Vine (9/12 - 9/14) be prepared for some serious foot traffic. Check out the Herringtons website to see if they have some specials for the festival.

Restaurants: Wildwood, Atwater(at the hotel), Bistro Thai, Urban Grill, Isabella's - All of these would be wonderful for your anniversary dinner. Not to mention many bars with restaurants - Stockholms, Flagstone, Little Owl, Old Town Pub. There are more restaurants that I have failed to mention.

St. Charles

Hotel Baker - awesome access to bike trails (well so does Herrington)>Scarecrow Festival 10/11-10/18 is lots of fun. Very Very Very Busy!!! Also has wonderful restaurants : Francescas on the River (my fav), Zsa Zsa Trattoria, 18 North, Harvest (at the Pheasant Run Resort), Nikkos Lodge (west of St. Charles), VinoThai (East of Downtown)- many more...plus lots of pubs and casual eateries (McNally's Pub, Pub 222, The Beehive, The Yard, The Filling Station (nice outdoor eating). However, there doesnt seem to be as much shopping in St. Charles as Geneva (that is for sure!) But there are some cute shops still there.

Either town you chose, you will not be disappointed. Good luck
