Geneva (+ chicago) lots of questions

Over from England in Geneva Mon 31st Aug to Thur Sept 3rd.

1. I am correct in saying Geneva (ILL) is scenic, pretty, plenty of cute shops + restaurants, nice buildings, relaxing?????

2. Is the bike path easily ridable + safe? My wife is a good cyclist but has osteoporosis so mustn't fall off!

3. I guess you could walk to St Charles (not on roads?)... or is Bratavia nicer?

4. Is the paddle ship good? frequent?

5. Is there a Cougars game?

6. Is the windmill worth a visit?

7. We are first in Chicago but will probably arrive via METRA ... is this easily done?

8. We end by going to the airport; I presume taxis will do this run from Geneva?

9. Anything we shouldn't miss?

If you can afford to come here from England you should not walk to St. Charles or Batavia--at least from Chicago. Kane County is nearly half again as large as Hong Kong. The only way you could easily get from one place to the other is using a map and roads. That could take a long time, and there might not be any pathways that would be safe.

You may if you have not already, want to visit the following URL.

Geneva is lovely and most of the dining and shopping district are within 5-8 blocks of the train depot. If you have traveling on the weekend. The METRA offers a weekend pass that you may purchase from the conductor on the train for $5.00 pp. This pass would be valid for as many stops and uses on Saturday and Sunday. This would allow you to explore say Evanston or Oak Park - also interesting cities near Chicago on Saturday and then venture to Geneva on Sunday.

Sounds like you might be interested in renting bicycles? If so, I believe Mill Race Cyclery on State Street in Geneva rents. Also on their website is information on the adjacent bike paths. http://millrace.com/page.cfm?pageID=16

If you are planning on cycling the paths along the river, you should ride just south of town to the Fabyan Villa and Japanese Gardens. Looks like it would be about 1.5 miles max from Mill Race Cyclery in Geneva to the Fabyan Forest Preserve. http://www.ppfv.org/fabyan.htm

The bike paths are all paved, fairly wide and well maintained. They tend to be busy on weekends with pedestrians near the Island Park area in Geneva.

Have a wonderful trip!
