Is there public transportation from Harvard illinois or Elgin Illinois to Skokie Illinois?
How do I use it; i.e. where to board, get off, buy tickets, etc.
Where in Skokie? If coming from Harvard, your bet bet is probably to take the Metra to Desplaines, I believe it is Pace bus 208 that goes between there the Purple Line in Evanston, thus passing through Skokie, but doublecheck on the website http://www.pacebus.com
There are probably some other buses from there as well. Metra and Pace would be separate charges, the Pace charges are on their website, and the Metra website is http://www.metrarail.com
Can't speak for the train from Elgin.
There is a train station on the Metra UP-Northwest line in Harvard. Take the train to the Des Plaines station.
Pace bus 208 Golf Road passes along the northern border of Skokie including the Old Orchard shopping center.
Pace bus 250 Dempster passes through downtown Skokie including the Yellow Line (Skokie Swift) station.
Both run from the Des Plaines Metra station on the UP-Northwest Line to the Davis Street Purple Line station.
If the train station is open, buy tickets from the ticket agent in the station. If the station is closed, just get on the train and pay the conductor when he asks for a ticket. Conductors accept cash only. The bus costs $1.75. Pay as you board. If you put too much in the fare box, you will not receive any change.
There is a train station in Elgin on the Metra Milwaukee District West Line.
Getting to Skokie from that train line is much more complicated and involves several bus transfers. If the train from Harvard will serve your needs, I would rather avoid explaining this.Edited: 6 years ago
I just noticed that it says under your name that you live in Rockford.
If you are coming from Rockford, it may be easier to drive to Crystal Lake than to Harvard. And there is more frequent train service from Crystal Lake. Crystal Lake is on the same train line as Harvard. You would just take the train from Crystal Lake to Des Plaines and follow the above instructions.
