Hiking Red River Gorge in February

We are planning a short trip to Red River Gorge in February. We would like to do half-day and day hikes. Can anyone recommend hikes of that length, especially hikes which might be passable and not too icy in February? Also, any advice on whether yaktrax or crampons would be more appropriate for hiking there in February?

This forum is pretty dead most of the time. There is a facebook group called Red River Gorge Hikers (or something similar) that is extremely active so if you post your question there you will likely get tons of responses .

Amazon has a dozen guide books for RRG - pick one. If you can find on Ebay one of the old white cover guides by a Cincinnati man, even better(the name escapes me).

They're predicting an inch of snow for tonight which should be gone by Thursday. This year we've had a couple dustings and that's all. We're not Everest here. Except for cold fronts, its generally been in the 40's - great hiking weather if properly dressed and booted.

Follow http://www.forecast.weather.gov for the 7 day forecast. Put Lexington, Ky. in the upper left hand "location" block. What Chicago gets, we get the next day.

This is really wilderness, and even though the vipers probably won't be out, its still potentially deadly wilderness. RRG has several fatals a year from people falling off cliffs - help and law enforcement is far, far away - act accordingly.

Travel safe, stay well.

FYI: We've been receiving more snow than usual recently so stay on top of the weather through the website above. Don't want you to waste the trip.
