Weekend trip

We are coming into town late Wednesday night for a noon Saturday football game in late September. We have a house about 0.7 miles from the square. There are 6 men in our group all 35 y/o+. We are looking for advice on where to play golf? restaurants not to miss? best bars to visit? and any advice for first time visitors.

We arent fans of the opponent; we travel to a different SEC town each fall for a guys trip . No one in our group has been there before. We hope to walk to most places other than the golf course.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

1. Re: Weekend trip

Ole Miss has a golf course and it is close to town.

Lots of places to eat-

Ajax diner for good food and southern style vegetables, City Grocery and Bar which is more upscale gourmet food (both are on the square), and about 30 minutes outside of town and only open Thurs-Sun nights is Taylor Grocery. Their pork, steak, shrimp and catfish is excellent.

If time be sure and walk over to the Grove where they do all the tailgating at Ole Miss, go to William Faulkner's grave near the square and to his home at Rowan Oak. Also visit Square Books which is one of the best independent book stores you will come across. There are lots of restaurants, yogurt shop, and stores around the square. It will be very busy on Friday and Sat. nights.

Some other great restaurants are the Oxford Grillehouse for fantastic steaks (located right on the Square), and for an awesome breakfast/Brunch try Big Bad Breakfast. Ajax has the best fried pickles i've ever eaten and they only serve them at night. i also love their meatloaf. You may have difficulty getting seated at many restaurants on Friday and Satirday night without reservations. Hotty Toddy!
