Ellis Island Front Yard Update

Just wondering if anyone has an update on the status of the Front Yard at Ellis Island. I think the ETA was pushed back twice already and last I heard, it was expected to open in June of 2018. With that just around the corner, is it ready to rock and roll?

Not sure if Gary B has any photos?

Was there on May 3. It wasn’t opened nor did it look ready at all.

The email listed above is for Christine, the owners daughter and Marketing Director. They are still behind but now expect (hope) to be open by July 1st.

Was in LV last week and we walked down to Ellis Island to check it out. I'm not a contractor but the Front Yard project seemed like it had barely begun. On a side note, I read a lot on TA and other places what a cool/locals place Ellis Island is and was really hoping to like it. In truth, I wasn't impressed. We were there on a Friday afternoon and no table games were open and the place looked semi-deserted. The EI sign on the outside was even missing a "D" on the end of Island. Unless you're driving there, it's also a pretty harrowing walk from the strip. Not long, but very busy traffic and dicey street crossings.

One street crossing if coming from Bally’s. At Flamingo and Koval with a crossing light. So why does traffic matter?

Say you don’t like EI, nothing wrong with that but to say it’s a harrowing walk is a blatant misstatement.

We have gone a few times and we walk right out ballys and up to the light. There’s always people around and I’ve never felt uneasy and we have done it after midnight too.

For me the walk is nothing. Stop at Stage Door on the way to get a $1 beer or two. It is not much different than going from Bally's to Mirage, probably even less traffic if not taking pedestrian bridge. But to each his own.

Thanks to all posters, that is kind of what I figured based on precedent on the project. I'm planning on going in Oct/Nov next and just selfishly want it done by then. And a special shout out to my Reading neighbor bnj728!

I agree. Quit making posts about things that are not true at all. Ellis Island is a short walk from Bally's and have never feel unsafe in my surroundings. Thanks for the update on the Front Yard as I will be visiting EI in mid-june.

I was at Ellis Island last week for breakfast. I saw very little construction work done on the Front Yard. I posted photos last week on TA. I drove. As for the walk from the Strip to Ellis Island. I have walked it perhaps a hundred times. The intersection at Flamingo and Koval is not a great place to cross the street. Yes, there is a crosswalk, but many crazy drivers. Many people have been hit in that crosswalk.

On the walk to Ellis Island, you will pass The Westin Hotel. It used to house many flight crews from LAS airport that had to overnight in Las Vegas. I know of two major airlines (and a smaller airline) that pulled the contract from the Westin because the flight crews did not feel safe on that walk. That walk is to the Strip, not Ellis Island. There are still a few airlines that still use the Westin, but not United, Frontier or Delta. They all used to use that hotel for airline crews and displaced passengers. No longer because of safety. It gets worse from the Westin to Ellis Island.

I'll still take the walk, but it is not the safest walk in Las Vegas. Take a look at the crime and accidents in that area.
