Should I join Total Rewards?

As I'm starting to plan our trip, I realize that a lot of the things we may be doing center around Caesar's or it's affiliates, which is what I think you call CET, right?

Some of our loose plans include seeing Mac King (Harrah's), Vinnie Favorito (Flamingo), eating at Bacchanal Buffet and Mesa Grill (Caesar's), seeing Absinthe, and possibly Shania Twain (Caesar's).

Should I get a Total Rewards membership? Would it save me money now? or in the future?

If I shop at the Forum Shops does that impact on my points?

We are planning on staying at the Mandarin Oriental. Is there any benefit in changing that to a Caesar's property?

Big thing I should mention is that we don't gamble!! So that will probably need to enter into the equation!

Thank you for your help!

Why not join? It'sfree and only takes a few minutes of your time.

Is free to join and it only takes 2 mins. You won't get any discount or benefit on shows and dinner but you do get something like a 5-10% off in the gift shop.

Go for it! Even though you don't gamble you might get some free slot play for joining. Last I knew the Flamingo was giving $10 in free play to new total rewards players so sign up at that location. You will get emailed discounts, etc. even as a no-roller if you ever plan to return. It is free to join.

Yes. There now are some CET restaurant menus that list price discounts for those that have a rewards card. If you don't gamble at all I see no reason to change your hotel option because it is unlikely to get future comp rooms without gambling. But there are still enough little benefits to have the card vs. not, in my opinion.

Mandarin is supposed to be a superb property. But it sounds like you are doing a lot of stuff up in the Caesars area. Did you price the rooms at all? (Not the lowest level). Convenience wise it might pay to be nearer to all of the things you have planned, especially if you were planning to taxi each time.

Also you can room charge your meals from any CET venue & then pay one time at check-out vs. digging a credit card out every time. In March CET was offering $10 credit on your card (vs free play). It took about 24 hours to load, but my travel companion used it to pay for some trinkets at the Paris gift shop.

I'm not sure what level of room at CET is comparable to a Mandarin room - probably one of the higher ones. One of the two of you could pre sign-up online for their card & then create a log-in ID & password to see if you did get discounted rates. Some of the props discount a bit immediately, even if you haven't set foot on property yet.

I am not a gambler either but recently signed up for Total Rewards. Everyone is right, it takes two minutes and saved us quite a bit on food at Planet Hollywood and Harrah's during our last stay. And they will compound the Total Rewards discount with any coupon (which I didn't realize until recently) so it can really add up. I should have signed up years ago! I am not expecting to be comped since I don't spend enough BUT the discounts on meals are much appreciated!

It is worth signing up for. If nothing else, they will email you with special rates for their slow periods.

Since you will be spending time in Caesars: Beware the lair of the time share salemen where the casino enters the Forum Shops. They will say, "Hey folks, how long are you in town for? Would you like some show tickets?" They are counting on your politeness to press their unwanted attack upon you.

You will enjoy Absinthe.

Ignore Yip -- virtually every restaurant within the hotels these days has discounts for having a TR card. Many even have different columns in the menu. The savings are generally pretty modest, but will add up over time.

The only reason to avoid getting a card is if you don't like the idea of being 'tracked' for marketing purposes. I personally don't care, but I know there's many folks who resent having their actions stored in a database somewhere -- so they happily pay the extra few bucks a meal/drink/whatever instead.

Yes, use your players card at all the casinos in Caesar's group to add up points faster. I usually play at sister casinos so the points can add up quickly plus you do get discounts. If you plan on coming back to Vegas you'll get great deals on hotel rooms in the future also. It's free and you always get some extra stuff when you first signup!

I did sign up for one, and looked at reservations (only at Nobu and Caesar's). The Caesar's ones came down $20 per night on all the categories.

I don't think its enough that I want to switch from the MO though - although jgates8, you make some excellent points about convenience - I hadn't thought of.

I might post a separate thread if I'm still wrestling with the hotel choice.

Thanks for your help everybody!
