Best area to stay in Las Vegas

Hi

We are flying in to Las Vegas airport from UK to commence a 3 week tour of California and Vegas area. We are intending to stay in Vegas for 3 or 4 nights.

We are a family of 5 with 3 sons who will, by then be aged 17, 15 and 11. We are looking for somewhere, doesn't have to be on the strip as we will be hiring a car, in a location which isn't too noisy and in a safe, respectable area. Keen as we are to see the city, we do not want to see pimps, hookers, drug dealers etc especially not on our doorstep.

Bearing this in mind are there any places we should avoid or areas which fit our requirements?

Thanks

My advice would be stay on the strip, don't stay downtown (Freemont St / Golden Nugget).

Not sure of your budget but anywhere between Wynn and Mandalay Bay.

It's useful to look on Google earth....find the strip and look at the hotels in the range I suggested. Forget travelling around Vegas by car and don't worry about pimps and drug dealers....you are very unlikely to see any of that on the strip!

Stay on The Strip!!!!!! If you are wanting options, mid Strip is the best location.

Many hotels wont accept 5 people in one room, you also have to be aware of getting two beds. There are places for 5 such as The Signature at the MGM grand.

You can also try to book two Connecting rooms.

The obvious recommendation, other than a Strip Hotel (2 rooms) would be a condo/timeshare property off-strip. I can't help with those.

But if you want a place with more to do, you might consider South Point or Orleans. These have arcades, bowling alleys, movie theatres, and family dining options. Both are off-strip, but full service hotel/casinos. And because they are off the Strip much better values than the Strip Hotels.

I d look at Red Rock for the reasons Ktinca lists but its a much nicer property than those he listed with all the amenities for kids bowling, movie theater great pool etc, and located in a great neighborhood.

The strip is loaded with hookers and dealers.

Yep, and they tend to target families of 5 with young children and teenagers! Give it a rest!!!!!!!!!!

I would have also reccommended Red Rock, especially if you want to spend an afternoon at Red Rock Canyon. But I've never stayed there myself, so I wasn't familar with the facilities and ameneties.

The Red Rock is nice. The area is very nice. Movie theater for the kids, casino for mom and dad. Not to mention the best buffet off the strip.
