Mosquitos

Hi Guys,

Bit of a random question, but are there mosquitos in Las Vegas?

Just want to know if I should pack any repellant for when I go in June.

Thanks,

Joanne

1. Re: Mosquitos

I have never been bitten in Las Vegas. But really I have rarely if ever been bitten in any city environment in the US. Mosquitos are generally something we deal with when we sit outside in the evening or go hiking or camping in the woods, or out for a picnic. Not walking down the Las Vegas strip. :)

I think bug repellent would be a bit overkill, but they ARE out there apparently.

I don't recall any when I have been out to LV. I have been in summer ealy fall early spring. I think it may be just too dry, as they need standing water to hatch the eggs and develop.

Not really. Mosquitos need a lot of free standing water, and there's very little of that in Vegas. Can't say I ever remember a mosquito in vegas.

No, the climate there is far too dry for mosquitos to be an issue.

You tend to get Mosquito's in tropical places, ie humid / wet. Never been bitten in Vegas, but had a zillion bites in Florida!

They have them near Lake Mead. I've been bitten in some of the marina areas but never in Vegas.

Just want to add, they don't last long. It eventually gets too hot for them.

I have never had a problem with them in Vegas but have had huge problems with them here in Texas. I think Mosquitos are really attracted to me so if I do not have a problem I know that they are not huge in Vegas.

That said, if you are going to Lake Mead or other areas around Vegas that may be different.

Yeah I was actually shocked there were mosquitos (even near the lake) when I moved out here in 2008. I'm like, "it's the desert!" I was hoping to escape those flying, biting annoyances but they don't last long.
