Ticket cost on the rail system

We will be traveling from Penn Station Newark to Penn Station New York. Back and forth for 4 days. My question is: are there times (like rush hours) that it cost more to ride the Red Line (North East Corridor)? A couple years ago when we were on the Rail we heard something like that. We did not know about it and the conductor never came and collected our tickets but we want to be prepared if this is true...as we plan to buy all our tickets in advance and we want to have enough.........thanks.

it is $5 to NY on either line. I think however if your main goal is to see NYC you should stay in NYC. There is plenty to see in NJ. Here are a few links

What about rush hours, is there a different cost for that?

I am 98% sure the answer is that it's the same fare but to be sure you might want to call NJ Transit at (973) 275-5555 -- you can reach a live person and I've always found them helpful if a bit rushed

But keep in mind that between the two Penn Stations you can also take PATH for which the fare is $2.25 at all times, though you'll have to transfer to get to Penn Station NYC -- but PATH goes to other locations

The tickets cost the same 24/7. Note that you can buy all of the round-trip tickets for your four days at the same time and not do this each day. It saves a little time.

Are you traveling with children or seniors? They would pay reduced fare or ride free.

Kedp in mind that North Jersey Coast line (blue on map) also runs between Newark & NY Penn.

Also, if you plan to make more than 8 one-way trips, you may be better off buying a weekly pass depending on your days of travel.

Please note some NJT North Jersey Coast line trains go to Hoboken rather than NY Penn

Ok now I am confused..What if we took the Path Rail from Newark Penn to World Trade Center but we want to go to Times Square. Now what do we do? I see that Path goes to Christopher St, 9th st, 14 th st, 23rd st, and 33rd st. but how do we get from any one of those Penn station or Times Square?
