Post-Christmas skiing

Looking to come up from Florida the week after Christmas. Trying to take the kids (10 and 6) on their first skiing vacation. Is Boone a good place to look for a place to stay? Any help on pkg deals or deals otherwise would be appreciated.

Boone would be an ideal place to stay, as would the Banner Elk area. Appalachian Ski is between Boone and Blowing Rock. Sugar Mtn. and Beech Mtn. ski resorts are close to Banner Elk. You should move fast on this....that week is very popular and the slopes will be very crowded.

Prices will be premium for accomodations and the ski resorts will charge holiday rates.

That week is the busiest of the winter season, so high prices and few, if any deals. It would be wise to book soon. There are condos/homes around the area which are rented by the resorts, realty companies and also Homeaway.com and VRBO.com....The areas...Banner Elk(nearest to the big ski resorts...Beech Mountain http://www.beechmountainresort.com/ and Sugar Mountain http://www.skisugar.com/, but fewer restaurants and other activities to choose from) Boone(not too far a drive from the Banner Elk area, and also many restaurants, shopping, other activities, plus chain hotels), and Blowing Rock (restaurants, shopping, and hotels)

You'll have to research each area and see what works best for your family. Appalachian Ski Mountain is between Boone and Blowing Rock, and a bit smaller than the big ski resorts near Banner Elk. It is great for beginners and has a great ski school.. http://www.appskimtn.com/ This is probably where I would pick for young beginners, and stay in either Boone or Blowing Rock.....I love both towns.

With children 10 and 6, I think it would be best, to stay in Blowing Rock or Boone. The roads are well maintained and if you need to go back and forth, it would work well. If skiing is not an everyday option, there would be others options available.
