What happened to Morehead City?

We are six active adults staying in Emerald Isle for a week, and decided to drive over to Morehead City for the afternoon and an early dinner. Big mistake! Almost no shopping, and very few restaurants. We kept looking and asking around the waterfront. Finally drove ten minutes to Beaufort--what a difference! Lots of historical houses, active waterfront, lots of restaurants, and terrific shopping.

We will never waste time in MC again--have we missed something?

Most everything seems to be moving away from the downtown and waterfront district to Western MC. Mostly franchises and chain stores but more active than the old city.

Great oyster bar and seafood at Sammy's seafood and oyster bar. Generally packed even in off season. Red Fish Grill. Often ranked #1 in the Morehead - Beaufort area. Tried Tony's Sanitary rest lately? Great waterfront bar. Jack's Waterfront Bar - has more top bands than any place east of Raleigh. Things are alive and well in Morehead,

Should have went to the Ruddy Duck. Dock side tables and the best food around including Beaufort

Parrott's is a great place to eat, and the Arendal is a real grownup bar with good music. Best of all, it's a nice family town where kids can still ride their bikes into town to get an ice cream cone, even at night
