are ticks a problem in the area this time of year? I heard of someone i knew getting lyme disease but that was earlier in the season.

Although ticks are less prevalent the further north you go, they can appear anywhere in the province. Summer time is prime season to pick one up, but as long as there's grass they could be around.

Make sure to check yourself if you get close to nature while in the area and check out this article from the Ontario Ministry of Health:

Hey do not worry about ticks, they are much smaller than the black bears and easier to remove!
